A customer of Bugasura may have moved to ClickUp. Therefore, we are not claiming that we are the best, which is why you should read on, as this is not a sales pitch. We are exploring contexts where we have become useful. We wish to share them so you can assess your context and understand which tool is suitable for your journey. Most people tend to pick a popular tool because it is loaded with features. That’s how they make a wrong decision with full confidence.
ClickUp competes with Jira, which still is a giant software.
ClickUp believes that it has everything for everyone. However, Jira is still a giant software.
- Jira allows customization to match the precise needs of your team by combining flexible workflows with its marketplace of apps and integrations.
- Jira’s fully loaded free plan allows you to get a complete ‘feel’ of the software. No feature limitations will compel you to upgrade. Up to 10 users can access nearly every feature, with no strings attached.
- Jira is purpose-built to help developer teams collaborate and work faster. It is the leading software for agile teams with a multitude of agile templates, reports, and best practices to help build the best products. ClickUp is neither purpose-built for developers nor agile product development.
- Jira is tailored to serve the different needs of different teams. It offers versions for software, business, and IT teams, including Jira work management for business teams and Jira service management for the IT and operations teams. Together, Jira’s platform, with Dev and Ops on the same platform, serves the needs of the entire organization.
- ClickUp is everything for everyone but unsuitable for scaling beyond a single team. Jira provides the flexibility to either standardize work across teams or let teams decide how they want to work. Mix and match all you like.
- Jira allows powerful smart filtering and search backed by ML and Jira Query Language (JQL).
- Jira provides a smooth end-user experience with enterprise admin capabilities, such as a sandbox environment and controlled releases.
ClickUp is everything for everyone but not a bug tracker.
ClickUp is a PM tool that helps improve workflow with merged features and an intuitive interface. But bug reporting needs to be done the old-fashioned way. Bug tracking requires integration with other third-party software for even basic features such as environmental data, console recording, etc. The developers can see the bugs through the reporter’s eyes with no loss of information.
Also, a crowding of features overwhelms users, who complain of not being able to decide the purpose of using the tool. The UI is still a work in progress, with many empty panes and spaces, small text sizes, and faint colors.
Contexts when ClickUp is good for you
The particular contexts when choosing ClickUp would be a sound decision are:
- The free version suits the whole team: ClickUp’s ‘Free Forever’ plan offers features such as unlimited tasks, unlimited members, real-time collaboration, two-factor authentication, etc. In this plan, guests have full access to create and edit permissions. However, this plan provides limited storage of 100 MB and limited goal-setting options and is missing other essential features, such as unlimited integrations, unlimited dashboards, unlimited teams, etc. ClickUp works well for solo users and small teams for managing daily activities.
- The CEO thinks everything should be on one platform: Teams and organizations work with multiple apps for their projects. ClickUp is a replacement for multiple software and is typically used to manage projects. It minimizes costs by providing a single platform for all activities.
- When the requirement is a high-level problem solution: ClickUp works fine for solutions to high-level problems. For anything more involved, users are expected to customize extensively to derive the full benefits of ClickUp. Creating new projects can be confusing, and with frequent new features, it becomes difficult to stay abreast of what to implement and how to navigate the features. Moreover, its capabilities for reporting are limited and suited only for high-level solutions.
- No significant growth plans: ClickUp is a decent productivity and PM tool if the team is not planning to scale up significantly. It requires the workspaces to be planned meticulously, or else the tool feels broken. The end-doers can view the project in the ‘Board’ or the ‘List’ view, the planners in the ‘Calendar’ view, and the managers in the ‘Gantt’ view. This level of planning is fine for small teams but becomes a challenge as the team starts growing in size.
Context of our customer
The contexts when organizations would do well to pick Bugasura include:
- The team is on the growth path: Growing organizations look for software that can scale beyond a single team. Our software offers the flexibility to choose between standardizing work across teams or giving the teams complete autonomy to design their working methods. With our software, you are free to mix and match and scale as you please.
- Teams are getting distributed: When you have several lines of business and teams spread across the world, organizing work can be a nightmare. In such a scenario, a platform providing a single system of record that works across teams/geographies and also provides for delegated/enterprise level admin capabilities is invaluable.
- Organisations want to bring in their customers: Software development teams have a diverse set of people. A tool that works for one may not work for others. The customer is a key element of the development team whose role, however, is often overlooked. Bugasura is highly inclusive and built keeping product, design, QA, dev teams, and the customer in mind. Earlier, customers were spending a lot of time reporting issues, which Bugasura makes an in-app one-click affair.
- Greater efficiency in reporting bugs: Software teams use bug trackers to report errors as they occur during the development and testing of an application. The efficient
- logging and tracking of bugs do not just help in fixing bugs but also improves efficiency by accelerating the software development lifecycle.
- Requirement of a dedicated and deeper bug tracker: A specialized tracker, through data-rich and easy-to-read dashboards, helps in effectively reporting the status of every issue. Teams need data to build comprehensive user stories to design tests as well as understand the issues reported by the users to replicate them accurately. The data obtained from testing and tracking efforts help create the context that provides insights for RCA. Our in-app analytics helps developers/testers glean insights to prevent a recurrence.
Closing Thoughts
The above reasons prompted our customers to move from Clickup to Bugasura. That said, we are learning from the good things that ClickUp has done. We are interviewing our customers, who moved from ClickUp to Bugasura, to learn what they loved about ClickUp and funnel that into how we can be inspired by them.
We are not competing with our peers but learning from them as we need to succeed as an ecosystem.
