Qase sells read-only collaborator seats at $10 per user per month, and Testiny sells viewer seats at $3.08 per month on its yearly rate. If product managers or founders need to see results, that adds up.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n Minimums and caps.<\/span><\/b> Qase Teams has a five-seat minimum. TestRail Essentials stops at five users, so a sixth person means moving to Professional.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n What is gated.<\/span><\/b> On TestRail, single sign-on, audit logs and test case versioning sit on Enterprise, which is $78 against $38 for Professional. TestRail does list its AI features on every plan.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n Monthly billing costs more.<\/span><\/b> On the tools that offer it, paying monthly is more expensive than the annual figures above.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Per Jira User: Why the Bill Follows Your Jira Instance<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n This is the pricing model that surprises people most. Xray and Zephyr are Jira apps, and Atlassian prices Marketplace apps by the number of users in your Jira site, not by how many people use the app. A SmartBear staff reply, from the company that makes Zephyr, puts it plainly: if you have 20 Jira users and only five use the test management app, you are charged for all 20. Xray’s own pricing calculator starts the same way, with a box for your number of Jira users.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In practice, that means five testers inside a 200-person Jira site are priced as 200 users. Prices are set by tier, so crossing a tier boundary can reprice the whole subscription, and Jira’s own licence is a separate line on top.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n We are not putting a dollar figure on Xray or Zephyr here. Neither vendor publishes a flat per-user price, and the exact quote comes from the Atlassian Marketplace for your user count. What we can say is the shape of the cost:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \n Cheap when Jira is small, or when most Jira users also test.<\/span><\/b> The per-tester cost can be low because the app’s price is spread over everyone.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n Expensive when testers are a small slice of a large Jira instance.<\/span><\/b> You pay for the whole site to give a handful of people test management.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n If you are weighing a Jira app against a standalone tool, count your Jira users, not your testers, before you compare.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Free: What It Means and Where It Stops<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n Free plans exist at several vendors, and they all have a ceiling. Qase’s free plan covers four regular users and two projects. Testiny’s covers three users, with test cases, plans, runs and executions limited to 1,000 combined. Tuskr’s covers five users, five projects and 1,000 test cases. TestRail has no permanent free plan, only a 30-day trial.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Ours has no seat cap. The Bugasura free plan includes unlimited users, projects, test cases and sprints, with 50 GB of storage and no trial period. It includes test management, an <\/span>AI-assisted issue tracker<\/span><\/a>, requirements management, a knowledge base and an MCP server. <\/span>Testpert<\/span><\/a>, our AI layer for test strategy, is free to use through September 2027.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n It is not everything we offer. Our Custom tier covers things like single sign-on, on-premises deployment and regional data hosting. We do not publish a price for it, because it is scoped to the deployment. If you need those, you will get a quote, not a price list.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n One more kind of free is worth naming: open-source tools you host yourself, such as TestLink and Kiwi TCMS. They have no licence-based seat limit, but you pay in other ways: servers, setup and upgrades, and the time of whoever maintains them.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Costs Beyond the Sticker Price<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n The per-seat figure leaves out costs that often matter more:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \n Migration.<\/span><\/b> Moving test cases between tools takes time, and so does retraining a team. A cheaper tool that costs two weeks of migration is not free.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n Administration.<\/span><\/b> A tool someone has to configure and maintain has an hourly cost, even when the licence is cheap.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n Growth.<\/span><\/b> A plan that fits a team of four can double in cost at six, or force a tier jump. Price the team you will have in a year.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n Access for non-testers.<\/span><\/b> Read-only seats, viewer seats and Jira-user counts are where the real bill diverges from the headline price.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n How to Work Out Your Own Number<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n \n Count everyone who needs to log in, not only testers.<\/span><\/b> Include developers, product managers and anyone who reviews results.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n Check the minimums and the gates.<\/span><\/b> Look for seat minimums, user caps and what is reserved for higher plans, such as single sign-on or API access.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n Price for annual billing, then for the team you will be in twelve months.<\/span><\/b> Compare the totals, not the per-user figures.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n For Jira apps, start from your Jira user count.<\/span><\/b> Ask the Marketplace for a quote at that number.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n If a seat count is the thing you would rather stop doing arithmetic on, <\/span>start free on Bugasura<\/span><\/a>.
